Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine, and it is most prominently expressed in the frontal plane. The frontal plane divides the body into anterior (front) and posterior (back) sections, which is essential for observing deviations from normal spinal alignment. In scoliosis, the spinal curvature is observable from a frontal view, where the spine appears to curve to one side, creating an asymmetrical appearance of the trunk and potentially leading to uneven shoulders or hips.

The other planes, such as the sagittal plane, which divides the body into left and right sections, and the transverse plane, which divides the body into upper and lower portions, do not effectively illustrate the lateral curvature characteristic of scoliosis. As such, the frontal plane is the most relevant for assessing and diagnosing scoliosis.
